David Vanorbeek is an artist and sculptor.
Since childhood he has been fascinated by biodiversity in nature, having grown up in freedom and joy in rural areas. At the age of 14, his father died suddenly, which led him to question the world: what are the true values of life? What are the limits that are imposed on us or that we impose on ourselves?
Here is it probably where his sensitivity and respect for the beauty of nature originated.
In possession of a high-school degree with a specialization in readaptation, he was active as a social worker for five years. It was also during this period that he met his partner, Natalie. An artist herself, which certainly influenced David to start as a sculptor.
He began his career in 1999 with the creation of insect sculptures. With this theme, he exhibited at plant fairs in Belgium and Holland and sold works to zoos and botanical gardens in both countries.
In 2002 David, Natalie and their children leave Belgium for France where they settle in Occitanie.
His exhibitions and commissions include Apimondia (International Beekeeping Congress), for OPIE (Office Pour les Insectes et leur Environnement), he made a large praying mantis sculpture that shows in front of their insect-museum (Musée Maison des insectes) near Paris. He exhibited at FIFI (Festival International du Film de l'Insecte) where the film 'Microcosmos' won prizes, showed his artworks alongside the well-known photographs of Yann Arthus Bertrand (Earth from Above) at the Domaine de L'Hospitalet in Narbonne and the National Museum of Natural History and birthplace of Jean Henri Fabre. After years of only making sculptures of insects, David evolved his art into abstract works in 2007.
He still makes his works out of recycled metal, but where they used to be made of wire, they are now welded.
With his wife and Textile Artist Natalie they have the "MetalloTextile" project, which was very successful through various exhibitions already.

David Vanorbeek is beeldhouwer.
Opgegroeid in vrijheid en in blijheid op het platteland was hij al van kindsbeen af gefascineerd door de biodiversiteit in de natuur.
Op 14-jarige leeftijd overleed zijn vader plotseling, wat hem ertoe bracht de wereld in vraag te stellen: wat zijn de echte waarden van het leven? Waar ligger (morele) grenzen die ons worden opgelegd of die wij onszelf opleggen?
David's gevoeligheid en respect voor de schoonheid van de natuur vinden hier hun oorsprong.
In het bezit van een hogeschooldiploma met als specialisatie readaptatie-wetenschappen, was hij vijf jaar lang actief als maatschappelijk sociaal-werker. Het was tevens tijdens deze periode dat hij zijn partner, Natalie, ontmoette. Zelf een kunstenares, hetgeen zeker invloed heeft gehad op hem om als beeldhouwer te beginnen.
David begon zijn carrière in 1999 met het maken van insectensculpturen. Met dit thema stelde hij tentoon op plantenbeurzen in België en verkocht hij werken aan dierentuinen en botanische tuinen in Belgie en Nederland.
In 2002 verlaten David, Natalie en hun kinderen België voor Frankrijk waar ze zich vestigen in Occitanie.
Tot zijn tentoonstellingen en opdrachtgevers behoren Apimondia (Internationaal Congres van de Bijenteelt), voor OPIE (Office Pour les Insectes et leur Environnement), maakt hij een grote bidsprinkhaan die pronkt voor hun insecten-museum (Musée Maison des insectes) bij Parijs. Hij exposeerde op het FIFI (Festival International du Film de l'Insecte) waar de film 'Microcosmos' prijzen won, vervolgens naast de overbekende foto's van Yann Arthus Bertrand (Earth from Above - De aarde vanuit de lucht) op het Domaine de L'Hospitalet te Narbonne en het Nationaal Natuurhistorisch Museum en geboorteplaats van Jean Henri Fabre. Een grote honingbij, gemaakt uit gerecycleerd ijzerdraad, ging naar Hamburg (2011) wanneer Green Capital of Europe, ...
Na jarenlang enkel sculpturen van insecten te hebben gemaakt, evolueerde David in 2007 zijn kunst tot het maken van abstracte werken.
Hij maakt zijn werken nog steeds van gerecycleerd metaal, maar waar ze vroeger vaak van draad waren gemaakt, zijn ze nu gelast.
Met zijn vrouw Natalie hebben ze het project "MetalloTextile", dat via verschillende tentoonstellingen heel wat succes kende.
