David Vanorbeek’s proposal criticizes human voracity. It is a sharp reflection questioning the species evolution and the consequences of human activity on various ecosystems.

In Vanorbeek’s view, humans (and other species) are evolving constantly, but the major issue is whether human evolution is going in the right direction.

Since the appearance of sapiens, humans fight, explode, destroy other species and destroy nature.

The artist poses the necessity to make moral decisions, to choose compassion over destruction, to aim at nature and respect it instead of exploiting and destroying it.

The sculpture represents a gear symbolizing time and evolution, the gear of human evolution, always in the same direction, maybe the wrong one. There is a background question: Can we reduce the speed and get back?

The center of the gear is a human skull. The tips of the wheel are coffins that dig time and time again, until the end…of humanity.

The sculpture measures 250 x 250 x 20 cm. It was made in 2013 and it is welded with recyclable metal.

La proposta de David Vanorbeek és una crítica a la voracitat humana. Una reflexió punyent que qüestiona l’evolució de l’espècie i l’impacte de l’activitat humana sobre els diversos ecosistemes.

Per Vanorbeek,  els humans (i altres espècies) sempre estem en evolució, però la gran pregunta és si l’evolució humana va en la direcció correcta. 

Des que van aparèixer els sàpiens, la humanitat lluita, explota, destrueix altres espècies i la natura. 

L’artista planteja la necessitat de prendre decisions morals, d’escollir la compassió per sobre de la destrucció, d’orientar la roda cap a la natura i respectar-la en lloc d’explotar-la i destruir-la.

L’escultura representa un engranatge que simbolitza el temps i l’evolució. L’engranatge de l’evolució humana, sempre en la mateixa direcció, potser en la direcció equivocada. I una pregunta de rerefons: Podem reduir la velocitat, tornar enrere?

El centre de l’engranatge és un crani humà. Els extrems de la roda són taüts, que caven i caven fins el final … de la humanitat.

L’escultura mesura 250 x 250 x 20 cm. Va ser feta l’any 2013 i està soldada amb metall reciclable.
